The Defendant wanted to be re-housed by the council so decided to set fire to his council flat. The fire could not be controlled and consequently his wife, son and another woman died in the fire. He was convicted of manslaughter but appealed. The Court of Appeal upheld the conviction because all the elements of unlawful act manslaughter were present.
